Airgraphs

My maternal Grandfather served in the Army during World War II.  In 1943 he was stationed in North Africa, driving supply convoys across the desert.

During this time he wrote a series of Airgraphs (or airmail letters), back home to his daughter Pat, my mother.

They are an amazing view of every day life in a supply convoy during the Tunisia campaign, more details of which can be found here .

A short Pathe News video showing how airgraphs were produced can be viewed here.  And a little more descriptive detail on wikipedia here.
